Major milestone in genomic research

Genome Canada has announced the launch of the Canadian Precision Health Initiative (CPHI) with $81 million in Government of Canada investment. A total investment of $200 million is expected, including co-funding from industry, academia and public sector partners.

The CPHI will build Canada’s largest-ever collection of human genomic data—more than 100,000 genomes representing the diversity of Canada’s population.

This landmark collaboration will help transform health care in Canada by unlocking genome sequencing data for more personalized, preventative and cost-effective care. And it will sharpen Canada’s edge in the highly competitive health innovation sector.

As part of this initiative, Genome Canada and provincial partners—including the Ontario Brain Institute (OBI)—and matching fund programs will support a $12M investment at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.

"This initiative will transform genome science into a tool for equitable access to innovation, advancing personalized health solutions for neurodiversity, brain injury, and mental health,” says Dr. Evdokia Anagnostou, Vice-President of of Research at Holland Bloorview and Co-Director of the Province of Ontario Neurodevelopmental Disorders (POND) Network, an OBI Integrated Discovery Program.
