Ontario Brain Institute joins global effort to advance dementia research

The Dementia Research and Innovation Funders Alliance (The Alliance) is a pivotal component of the CIHR Brain Health and Cognitive Impairment in Aging (BHCIA) Research Initiative, which unites research funders across Canada in a collective effort to enhance dementia research.

The Alliance aims to accelerate innovation, promote collaboration, and effectively mobilize research findings to improve brain health and dementia care in Canada. As a key partner, the Ontario Brain Institute (OBI) played an instrumental role in the establishment of the Alliance, collaborating with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and other stakeholders to unite organizations focused on advancing brain health and dementia research.

A recent event brought together over 30 organizations from around the world to assess the Alliance's progress and explore strategies for addressing the growing challenges of cognitive impairment and dementia. Held as part of the CIHR Brain Health and Cognitive Impairment in Aging Research Initiative, the event facilitated key discussions on global collaboration and innovative solutions.

Event highlights include:

- Global Insights: Representatives from organizations such as JPND, Horizon Europe, and CSA shared cutting-edge strategies to drive dementia research forward.

- Strengthened Partnerships: The event fostered new collaborations between Canadian and European researchers, reinforcing global efforts to advance dementia care.

OBI's involvement in this initiative supports the development of vital international partnerships, contributing to Canada's National Dementia Strategy and enhancing global brain health outcomes.
