OBI Public Talk: Precision Medicine
The final talk of the 2022-23 ‘Your Brain Health’ series will unpack the concept of precision medicine in brain health. Join us as we explore current research into the underlying biology of brain disorders and learn about the exciting biomarker discoveries that the Ontario Brain Institute (OBI) and its partners are uncovering that move us closer to individualized treatments.
Precision Medicine: The Future of Brain Health features research experts in neurodevelopmental disorders, concussion care, and youth mental health who are working to improve diagnosis and care for both the short and long term.
Speakers:
- Dr. Azadeh Kushki, Senior Scientist at the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital and an Associate Professor at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto. Dr. Kushki’s research focuses on the application of data science approaches to characterize neurodevelopmental diversity, and to develop technology-based supports for neurodivergent children.
- Dr. Andrée-Anne Ledoux, Scientist at the CHEO Research Institute and Assistant Professor in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine & the School of Psychology at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Ledoux’s research interest includes the development of novel approaches for the assessment, treatment and understanding of concussion, and mental health.
- Dr. Peter Szatmari, Professor in the Department of Psychiatry (Temerty Faculty of Medicine) at the University of Toronto and Senior Scientist at the Hospital for Sick Children. Dr. Szatmari has worked in the field of child and youth psychiatry for over forty years in the areas of ADHD, disruptive behaviour disorders, depression and anxiety, and impairment due to mental disorders. He is currently the director of the Cundill Centre for Child and Youth Depression at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, and the co-lead of the Precision Child and Youth Mental Health Initiative at the Hospital for Sick Children.
